The 2nd International Congress on Science and Nordic Skiing (ICSNS) was held at the Vuokatti Sports Institut from May 28th-31st, 2012

The congress was organized by the Sports Technology Unit of the Department of Biology of Physical Activity, University of Jyvaskyla, Finland, together with the Department of Sport Science and Kinesiology, University of Salzburg, Austria and with the Vuokatti Sports Institute, the Centre for Measurement and Information Systems and the Municipality of Sotkamo. The congress program offered a wide spectrum of current research in Nordic skiing. Besides 7 key note papers, 14 invited, 41 oral and 16 poster presentations as well as 2 workshops, overall representing 13 different countries in the world, inspired interesting discussions. The scientific event involved research in familiar topics such as biomechanics, physiology, training and motor learning and technology in Nordic winter sports. A new and exciting addition to the program was the Paralympic Sport in Nordic Skiing that the organizers were happy to welcome in the »family«. The Young Investigator Award competition provided scientific competition among young fellows.In this Congress book, selected keynotes, oral and poster presentations are published. The manuscripts went through a peer review and editorial judgment process prior to acceptance.
